Guilherme Ary Plonski (director, chosen by the Board)

Master and PhD in Production Engineering from USP's Polytechnic School (EP). Postdoctoral fellow (Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar) at the Center for Science and Technology Policy of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Professor of the Department of Management at USP’s Faculty of Economics, Management and Accounting (FEA) and Associate Professor of the Department of Production Engineering at EP. Scientific Coordinator of the Center for Technological Management and Policy (PGT). He was Managing Director (2001-2006) of the Institute of Technological Research of the State of São Paulo (IPT). He was President of the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises (ANPROTEC). He integrates the Board of Governors of the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion).

Roseli de Deus Lopes (deputy director, chosen by the Board)

An associate professor at USP's Polytechnic School, Roseli de Deus Lopes is the coordinator of several programs of the University's Dean for Research and general coordinator of the Brazilian Science and Engineering Fair (FEBRACE), which she has conceived. It is a national movement of international projection to encourage young scientists, annually holding a large exhibition of research projects developed by basic education students. Lopes is a member of the Board of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC). She has been director of Estação Ciência and academic coordinator of the program "USP and the Professions," both linked to the Dean for Culture and Extension.

Valtencir Zucolotto (coordinator of IEA's São Carlos Center, chosen by USP's President after a triple list voted by the Board)

Professor Zucolotto has obtained an undergraduate diploma in Materials Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos and a PhD in Science and Materials Engineering from the University of São Paulo. He is currently a full professor at USP's Institute of Physics in São Carlo (IFSC), where he coordinates the GNano Group on Nanomedicine and Nanotaxicology. He has been a visiting professor at the Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble. He was an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and a full member of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC)'s board. He has experience in Nanotechnology, and Development and Application of Nanomaterials in Medicine.

Antonio José da Costa Filho (coordinator of IEA's Ribeirão Preto Center, chosen by USP's President after a triple list voted by the Board)

A full professor at USP in Ribeirão Preto, Professor Costa Filho's research area involves investigating the interactions between biomolecules, emphasizing the relationship between proteins and their ligands. He is also interested in projects that seek to identify how pharmacological compounds affect the organization of models for the cell membrane. He is an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He is a researcher of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), also being a full member of its Advisory Committee on Biophysics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Neurosciences. He currently coordinates the Graduate Program in Physics Applied to Medicine and Biology at USP. He is also vice president of the Brazilian Society of Biophysics (SBBf).

José Roberto Castilho Piqueira (chosen by USP's President)

He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from USP's School of Engineering (EESC) at the São Carlos campus (1974), a Master's degree in the same field and also from EESC (1983), and a PhD (1987) from USP's Polytechnic School (POLI), where he also obtained a degree in Control and Automation (1997). He is currently a full professor (1999) and the director of POLI. Piqueira has 84 indexed articles in the Web of Science (2 editorials, 69 in journals, 13 in congresses, h = 10). He has oriented 18 PhD projects and supervised 5 postdoctoral fellowships. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Control, Automation and Electrical Systems (Springer). He is a member of the National Institute of Science and Technology / Complex Systems, of the Superior Councils of the Energy and Nuclear Research Institute (IPEN), and of the Brazilian Society of Automation (SBA). He has experience in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, with emphasis in General Theory of Electrical Circuits, working mainly in the following subjects: dynamics, bifurcation, synchronism, chaos and mathematical models.

Sérgio Adorno (chosen by the University Council)

Sérgio França Adorno de Abreu holds a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1974), a PhD in Sociology from the University of São Paulo (1984) and has been Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre de Recherches sur le Droit Sociologiques et les Institutions Penales, CESDIP, France. A professor of Sociology, he is currently Director of USP's Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH-USP). He is also the Scientific Coordinator of the Center for the Study of Violence (NEV / USP). His area of research lies in the field of Political Sociology, acting on the following topics: violence, human rights, urban crime, social control, social conflicts, justice, and democracy. He has authored and co-authored 79 articles in scientific periods (nationally and internationally), 2 books and 52 chapters in books (nationally and internationally). He has been the training supervisor to 24 professors, 21 doctors and 2 postdocs. He is a Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit from the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology.

Celso Lafer (chosen by USP's President after a triple list voted by the Board)

Former lecturer at the Department of Philosophy and General Theory of Law at USP's Faculty of Law, Lafer was also Minister of Development, Industry, and Commerce in 1999, and Minister of Foreign Affairs on two occasions: in 1992, under Fernando Collor, and from 2001 to 2002, during the last two years of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso administration. He was also ambassador and head of the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations and to other international organizations based in Geneva. In 2006, Lafer was elected to occupy chair 14 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, in the succession of Miguel Reale. He is also a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Graduated in Law from USP in 1967, he earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Political Science from Cornell University in 1967 and 1970, respectively. In 1977 he obtained a degree in Public International Law at USP.
