Artificial intelligence and new forms of love

The debut seminar of the cycle Life Today: Love, Art, Politics will be held on August 11, at 3 pm. Love in Technological Times: "Her" in Solitude will address the film “Her” to discuss love in the "post-human" era, and the relations between the modern man and technology in the context of digital culture.

Intercontinental Academia extends registration deadline to August 31

The deadline to participate in the Intercontinental Academia has been extended to August 31. The project is an initiative of the University-Based Institute for Advanced Study (Ubias) network, the IEA-USP and the IAR-Nagoya. The central theme of the project will be time and will consist of two workshops, one in March 2015 in São Paulo and another one in January / February 2016 in Nagoya. Additional activities at distance will occur between both meetings.

Reflecting on the Brazil’s Failure at the World Cup

Brazilian football is not a valid metaphor to represent the reality of the country, according to most participants of A Debate in Two Halves: The Phantasmagoria of Defeat, Soccer as Metaphor, held by the IEA-USP on July 25. They have agreed that football is more of a metonym, a part that represents the whole of what is wrong with the country. The debate has brought together researchers from the IEA-USP, USP’s Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH), UFPR, INSPER, Princeton University, Museum of Football, University of Oldenburg and a filmmaker.

Anthropologist creates support campaign for the funeral of the Bororo’s master of chants

José Carlos Kuguri, the last Bororo master of chants of the village Meruri, died on June 20 and is having a proper ethnic funeral, expected to last until October. The Bororo funeral is considered one of the most complex in the world and the most important ritual of this people. Anthropologist Massimo Canevacci, visiting professor at the IEA-USP, has created a campaign to raise funds to support the final phase of the funeral, when other masters of chants and representatives of various Bororo villages will gather to choose the successor to Kuguri.
