Committee finalizes the selection of the young scientists attending the Intercontinental Academia

The Senior Committee that coordinates the Intercontinental Academia (ICA) has completed the final stage of the selection process of the 15 young researchers who will participate in the pilot-project initiative. Among the scientists there are representatives from three continents and nine countries: Germany, England, Finland, India, Japan, China, Taiwan, the United States and Brazil. The group will start its activities in the first workshop of the ICA, to be held in São Paulo (April 17-30).

Open call for IEA-USP's Visiting Professor Programme 2015

The applicants must be international researchers of recognized merit, interested in conducting interdisciplinary research and contributing in a unique way with science, culture and society, having the potential to develop various academic activities at the IEA and USP. The submissions will go through the evaluation of the Institute's Board.

Paulo Saldiva is the new deputy director of the IEA-USP

Pathologist Paulo Saldiva, a professor at USP's Faculty of Medicine (FMUSP), is the new deputy director of the IEA-USP. He was elected by the members of the Institute's Board on February 24 and became the first leader of the IEA-USP to be chosen according to the guidelines of the new resolution of USP's Statute. Saldiva is the successor of Carlos Roberto Ferreira Brandão, a professor of USP's Zoology Museum (MZ), who took office as president of the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), a distinct body of the Ministry of Culture.

AGENDA

Meeting discusses the status of emerging economies in the global post-crisis scenario

The seminar The International Politics of Economic Globalization and Emerging Market Economy takes place on March 19-20, from 9 am to 6 pm (GMT -3) at FEA-USP. Brazilian, American and European researchers discusses the theoretical basis of an updated empirical comparative analysis of emerging countries. It is an initiative of the IEA-USP, USP's International Relations Institute (IRI) and USP's Center for Public Policy Research (NUPPs) in partnership with Princeton University's Niehaus Center for Globalization and Government. Both universities have been running an academic and scientific cooperation programme.

Seminar Discusses Strategies of Political Intervention for Environmental Governance

The meeting Global Environmental Change, Planning and Public Policies will discuss the potential and challenges of policy interventions for environmental governance and territorial planning, focusing on the role of civil society, on policy interventions based on scientific research, and on the tensions between governmental and non-governmental players in the decision-making process. It will be held by IEA-USP's Public Policies, Territoriality and Society Reasearch Group in March (23-27), from 9 am to 6 pm (GMT -3).

Workshop Addresses Recent Research on Quantum Chaos in Bose-Einstein Condensates

The Workshop on Bose-Einstein Condensates and Quantum Chaos, to be held from March 30 to April 2, from 9 am to 5 pm (GMT -3), will address new research on the quantum version of the chaotic behavior of Bose-Einstein condensates. The event is organized by IEA-USP's Unconventional Nuclear Astrophysics Research Group and will have the participation of physicists from Brazil, Russia, France, Israel and the United States.
