Book examines political representation and how it relates to the quality of democracy in Brazil

The performance of representative institutions and their relationship to the quality of democracy in Brazil are analyzed in the book "Congress, Political Parties and System of Integrity", to be launched at a seminar on November 24, at 2 pm (GMT -2), at the IEA-USP. Organized by political scientist José Álvaro Moisés, the study is an initiative by USP’s Center for Public Policy Research (NUPPs) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The seminar will feature presentations of all six chapters of the book by their authors. The event has been organized by the NUPPs and IEA-USP’s Quality of Democracy Research Group.

The political dimension of Lina Bo Bardi’s architectural oeuvre

Poetics in Lina Bardi: A Political Grammar is the theme of the seminar that IEA’s Environmental Policy Research Group will hold on November 25, from 10 am to 5 pm (GMT -2), in the Events Room of the Institute, celebrating the birth centenary of the Italian-Brazilian architect. Coordinated by Eda Tassara, a professor at USP's Institute of Psychology (IP) and the research group's coordinator, the meeting will discuss the political dimension of the architects's work and thought, considered a precursor of Post-Colonial Critical Theory.

A debate on the contributions the COP 20 may make to climate negotiations

The 20th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 20) will take place in Lima, Peru, over the first two weeks of December. There are doubts whether the conference will be able to define the real foundations for a new climate agreement. The related issues will be discussed in the debate COP 20: What Can We Expect?, which IEA-USP's Environment and Society Research Group, with support from the Interdisciplinary Climate Investigation Center, will hold on November 26, at 2 pm (GMT -2), at the IEA-USP. The debaters will be Eduardo Felipe Pérez Matias, Ricardo Baitelo and Wagner Costa Ribeiro. Moderation will be in charge of the research group's coordinator, Pedro Roberto Jacobi.

The First World War seen from an ideological, historiographic and literary viewpoint

Can History Teach Us Anything? 100 Years of the First World War is the theme of the seminar to be held by the IEA-USP on November 28, in partnership with the Martius Chair of German and European Studies, linked to USP, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The seminar will feature two panels: Literature, coordinated by Helmut Galle, a professor at USP's Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH), will be devoted to an aesthetic reflection on literary production concerning the First World War; and History and the History of Ideas, coordinated by Karen Lisboa, also from FFLCH, when political and historiographic issues will be addressed.

Subjectivity and suffering in contemporary life

IEA-USP's Humanities and the Contemporary World Research Group will hold the seminar Filiation's Crisis: Subjectivity and Suffering on November 28, at 2 pm (GMT -2), at USP's Institute of International Relations (IRI).
