3rd Forum AIDS and Brazil will take place on November 9

Journalists and experts will gather on November 9, at 2 pm, in order to discuss the importance of information in the fight against AIDS. The 3rd Forum AIDS and Brazil has been organized by Portal Imprensa in partnership with the IEA-USP, UNAIDS (United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS) and the Department of STD, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The audience will be on-line only, however questions to the participants may be sent. The guests will discuss how the access to information may end up with taboos among y oung people in relation to sex.

Specialists of France, Spain and Brazil discuss water management in large cities

The experiences of large cities regarding their governance of water resources will be presented at the seminar Monitoring Sustainability of Family Systems in Agro-ecological Transition, to be held at the IEA on November 10, at 9.30 am. The conferencists will be Leandro del Moral Ituarte, from the Departament of Human Geography of the University of Sevilla, and Bernard Barraqué, research director at the Centre International de Recherche sur l'Environnement et le Développement, in Paris. They will examine the contexts of water scarcity in the world, the emergence of conflicts, and the reactions and responses of social actors from the perspective of environmental justice.

The dissemination of science, technology and innovation at USP

Journalists Mônica Teixeira and Hérika Dias will be at the IEA to discuss how society is informed of the knowledge produced by the University and how we can broaden the dissemination of this research. Organized by the IEA's Innovation and Competitiveness Observatory, the meeting will take place on November 11, from 2.30 pm to 5 pm, in the Institute's Events Room. The University of São Paulo accounts for approximately 25% of the scientific production in Brazil, according to the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

Political scientists debate their visions of Latin America

The Latin America of Political Scientists is the theme of the fourth meeting of the cycle Latin American Identities, coordinated by Bernardo Sorj, director of the Edelstein Center for Social Research and a former visiting professor of the IEA. The debate will be held on November 12, at 4 pm, at the USP's Institute of International Relations (IRI). The exhibitor will be Leonardo Avritzer. Maria Hermínia Tavares de Almeida, from the IRI-USP, and Sérgio Fausto, executive superintendent of the  Fernando Henrique Cardoso Institute (iFHC), will be the panelists.

The impacts of psychoanalysis on contemporary political theory

Held by the Center for the Study of Diversity, Intolerance and Conflicts (Diversitas), the USP's Institute of Psychology and the IEA, the Symposium on Psychoanalysis and Contemporary Political Theory will discuss the theoretical approach between these two fields of study. The lectures and round tables will take place on November 16, at 7 pm, and on November 19, from 10 am to 6 pm, in the former room of the University Council.

Diagnosis of the sustainability of agro-ecosystems

The economic viability of agro-ecological systems will be addressed at the seminar Monitoring Sustainability of Family Systems in Agro-ecological Transition, to be held on November 18, from 8 am to 11 am, in the IEA's Events Room. The conferencist will be agronomist Gabriel Bianconi Fernandes, technical advisor of AS-PTA Agricultura Familiar e Agroecologia. Moderation will be in charge of Hugh Lacey, a visiting professor of the IEA, and Pablo Mariconda, coordinator of the research group, which organizes the seminar.

Hospitality as an essential element of democracy

The debate The Challenge of Hospitality: Migrants and Refugees, held on October 22, was the second debate of the IEA's Laboratory of Global Megatrends and Challenges to Democracy, coordinated by Portuguese political scientist Álvaro de Vasconcelos, a visiting professor at the USP's Institute of International Relations (IRI). The main issue raised was the obstacle to hospitality and to ensuring rights to foreigners. The laboratory is an initiative of the IEA and the IRI-USP.
