Second phase of the Intercontinental Academia starts on March 6 in Japan
Almost a year after the meeting organized by the IEA in São Paulo, the participants of the first edition of the Intercontinental Academia will gather in March (6-18) for the second phase of the project, in Nagoya. The programme includes conferences with two Nobel Prize winners from Nagoya University: physicist Toshihide Maskawa, awarded in 2008, will give a master class on March 7, at 1.30 pm (Nagoya time). Chemist Ryoji Noyori, awarded in 2001, will speak at 3 pm on the same day. All conferences will be broadcast live on the websites of the IEA and the Intercontinental Academia. The videos will also be available on the IEA website later. This phase is being organized by the Nagoya University's Institute for Advanced Research (IAR) with the technical support of the IEA.

Book addresses intelligent systems based on non-classical logics
The IEA launched the third e-book produced by the Logic and Theory of Science Research Group in February. "Topics of Intelligent Systems Based on Non-classical Logics" has been organized by Jair Minoro Abe, a professor at the Universidade Paulista (UNIP) and coordinator of the research group. The texts address current themes of intelligent computation, a discipline that "has been establishing itself solidly in the field of artificial intelligence and intelligent systems, coupled with non-classical logics, a background to topics of studies," said Abe. Interested parties can download the file for free (in Portuguese).
