Jane Ohlmeyer presents a case of successful interdisciplinary research in the digital humanities

A professor of modern history and chair of the Irish Research Council (IRC), Jane Ohlmeyer will be at the IEA on August 24 for the conference "The Power of Interdisciplinary Research: the Example of Digital Humanities", which will start at 2 pm in the Events Room with live webcast. The researcher will report the importance of interdisciplinary research and her experience in the field of digital humanities with the 1641 Depositions project, a collaboration of researchers from the arts, humanities, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Ohlmeyer will also present an institutional overview as director of the Trinity Long Room Hub.

A debate on employment and innovation in the tourism sector

The Working Group on Innovation in Services, recently established by the IEA's Innovation and Competitiveness Observatory (OIC), will start a series of meetings on the subject. The seminar "Employment and the Importance of Innovation on Tourism" will take place on August 25, from 10 am to 5 pm, in the IEA Events Room. There will be a presentation on the Labour Market Information System of the Tourism Sector, a database managed by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism. Members of the group will present the first georeferenced results applied in the Gisbi Platform. The meeting will be broadcast live by the IEA website.

RESEARCH

USP professors can apply for a sabbatical year at the IEA in 2017

Launched in 2016, the Sabbatical Year Program at the IEA now has a second open call for USP professors who wish to develop an individual research project at the Institute. The program has the support of the Dean of Research, which will offer up to R$ 12,000 for each approved project. To apply for one of the six vacancies, the candidates need to have at least seven years of effective exercise of their functions in full devotion to teaching and research (RDIDP), and submit a CV and a research project to be developed.

Issue #87 of 'Estudos Avançados' analyzes the Brazilian labour market

With articles by historians, sociologists and economists, the dossier "Labour Market", of the journal Estudos Avançados's 87th issue, complements the debate on unemployment started in issue 85. Organized by Alexandre de Freitas Barbosa, from the USP's Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB), the dossier addresses the labour market formation process in Brazil and specific topics such as labour in the Northeast of Brazil, the effects of economic recession, the reduction of social protection of workers and inequality in the gender division of labour.
