University

A conference at the IEA presents the influence of French researchers at USP

IEA's Brazil-France Research Group and the Institut des Amériques will bring together researchers from different areas to understand the influence in the main years of formation of the University of São Paulo. The French-Brazilian Conference will take place at the IEA, on November 27, from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, including sessions on medicine and biology, and human and social sciences. In addition to the legacy of USP's initial period, there will also be presented later and current results. There will be a live webcast of the event.

Cities

Miguel Bucalem talks about long-term planning in Brazilian cities

Miguel Bucalem, former São Paulo Secretary of Urban Development and professor at USP's Polytechnic School (POLI), will be the guest of the USP's Global Cities Program to talk about urban planning, and development projects and initiatives in which he was involved in the City Hall. One of the focuses of the presentation, which takes place at the IEA on November 30, at 2.30 pm, will be the long-term strategic planning of cities. As secretary, Bucalem has led the implementation of the project SP 2040, a plan of goals for the city of São Paulo until the year 2040. The event will be broadcast live over the web.

Philosophy

Philosopher will comment the landscape as an element of politics and human experiences

Dirk-Michael Hennrich, a member of the Center for Philosophy at the University of Lisbon, will be at the IEA on November 24, from 9.00 am, to talk about landscape as an element of politics, human and non-human experiences. According to the organizers of the conference 'Landscape as a Political Paradigm: Body and Landscape in the Age of Technical Images,' there is an inseparable relationship between landscape and politics since the emergence of the concept of landscape in the various languages of Western culture, which in its origin related to the good and bad government, and its effects on the urban and civilian population. It will be possible to follow the live broadcast on the IEA webs ite.

Arts

The first exhibitions of concrete and neoconcret art in Brazil are the theme of a meeting at the IEA

Poet, researcher and musician João Bandeira will be the lecturer of the 6th meeting on cultural exhibitions that marked the Brazilian scene, organized by the Olavo Setubal Chair of Art, Culture and Science. On November 28, from 2.30 pm, he will comment on the 1st National Exhibition of Concrete Art, held at the MAM-SP in 1956, and on the 1st National Exhibition of Neoconcret Art, which took place in 1959 at the MAM-RJ. The meeting will have a live webcast.

Sustainability

ESALQ holds event on circular economy in agribusiness and forests

In order to identify economic opportunities for business in the various agribusiness value chains, USP's Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ) and the Group of Agriculture and Circular Economy, with the support of the IEA, will hold the 1st Seminar of Circular Economy at AGRO. The meeting will take place on November 24, from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm, at ESALQ. There will be free live streaming on the web.

AWARD

A documentary produced by the IEA and USP's School of Medicine has been awarded in a festival

The documentary 'Urban 'Dis'mobility,' produced by the IEA and USP's School of Medicine, was one of the winners in the 2nd edition of the Mobifilm festival, an event that gathers and rewards movies about mobility and traffic safety. On November 20, the festival screened 47 films divided into nine categories. 'Urban 'Dis'mobility' has received an honorable mention in the category 'Independent movies'. The film shows the difficulties of locomotion and transportation in the region of São Paulo's Clínicas Hospital and how they affect its patients, especially those with reduced mobility.
