Society

Fragmentation processes of Latin American and European societies are the theme of an international workshop

Researchers believe that the various modern projects of democracies in the 21st century have led contemporary societies in the southern and northern hemispheres to face threats to their social integration in many dimensions. To discuss these movements, scholars from the Institute for Social Research at J. W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, from the Center for Violence Studies at USP and other guests will be gathered at the workshop 'Fragmentation and Solidarity: challenge to modern integration spheres in Europe and Latin America,' which will take place on December 14 and 15, from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, in the Former Room of the University Council. The event will be broadcast live on the IEA website.

Researcher discusses the exchange and social participation in environmental disasters

Anthropologist Stelio Marras, one of the current participants in IEA's Sabbatical Year Program, will be the lecturer at a seminar that proposes to evaluate the current relevance of the notions of exchange and participation in the face of the constraints of crises and ecological or environmental disasters in recent years. 'Such a revision leads to the widening of these notions and, consequently, to a shake of human anthropocentrism or exceptionalism in its modern version,' he argues. 'Exchange and Participation in the End-Age: A Review of Concepts by Force of Ecological-Environmental Constraints' will take place on December 11, at 2.30 pm, at the IEA. There will be a live webcast.
