Drauzio Varella and Mario Scheffer discuss proposals for healthcare in Brazil

On September 28, at 10:00 am, physician Drauzio Varella and Mario Scheffer, a professor at USP's School of Medicine (FMUSP,) will be at the IEA to present their proposals to improve healthcare in Brazil. The meeting will close the debate cycle promoted by the Institute in order to discuss measures that may subsidize the government plan of the future president of Brazil. The mediator of this meeting will be Professor José Eduardo Krieger, also linked to FMUSP and former Dean for Research at USP. There will be a live broadcast.

A meeting of the Olavo Setubal Chair addresses urban art produced in the Brazilian peripheries

After reflecting on the literature produced in the outskirts of metropolitan areas in Brazil, the Olavo Setubal Chair in Art, Culture and Science will promote a debate on urban art on September 28, at 2:00 pm. Having the aesthetic experiences such as graffiti, "pixo" (graffiti-like inscriptions) and HQ created by artists from peripheric regions of large cities as a starting point, the dialogue will bring together Panmela Castro, from Anarkia Boladona, Carlos Esquivel, from Universo Acme, Michel Onguer, from Ciclo Social Arte, as well as illustrator Marcelo D'Salete, and curator and cultural producer Sérgio Miguel Franco. Mediation will be in charge of the Chair's current holder, Eliana Sousa Silva. The purpose of the meeting is to reflect on the percepti on of these arts by the population of the cities and to promote the exchange of knowledge between the artists of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Researcher debates the exercise of autonomy in the face of digital technology

IEA's Research Group on Philosophy, History, and Sociology of Science and Technology will discuss the possibility of exercising autonomy in the proper choice of conduct in view of the increasing presence of digital technology in the daily life of computerized societies. On September 28, at 9:30 am, philosopher Max Rogério Vicentini, from the State University of Maringá, will focus on the impact of massive data processing by Big Data. The discussion will be based on the proposal of characterization of the Big Data, and their role in setting the opinion and the way of acting of the users of information and communication technologies (ICTs). There will be a live broadcast.

Seminar discusses ways to build a critical urban theory

With the objective of thinking about alternatives for the elaboration of a critical theory of the urban space, the IEA will host a seminar to seek to broaden the understanding of the modern world, from October 1 to 3, from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. For the organizers, there must be a critique of the State and the public policies. The event has been organized by the Institute's Study Group on Critical Urban Theory. There will be a live broadcast.

Tony Bovaird gives a conference on international partnership experiences between governments and communities

For further information, please send us an e-mail. Initiatives of joint work between the public sector and communities from various countries will be discussed by public management specialist Tony Bovaird, Professor Emeritus from the University of Birmingham, at the conference "International Coproduction Experiences: Involving the Citizen in the Public Sector," to be held on October 1, at 4:00 pm, at the IEA. The event will be broadcast live over the internet.

Seminar proposes an alternative division for the great areas of knowledge

The third seminar of the cycle "(Re)Discussion on the Great Areas of Knowledge" will be held on October 4, at 2:00 pm, at the IEA. The objective is to conduct a critical re-discussion on the current division of knowledge areas into exact, biological and human sciences. The proposal is to group the disciplines in natural sciences, cultural studies and arts, and philosophy. The need for differentiated scientometry criteria for each area will also be analyzed. There will be a live webcast of the event.

Curators discuss the production process of "Afro-Atlantic Stories"

Historian and anthropologist Lilia Moritz Schwarcz, from USP's Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH,) and Hélio Menezes, art critic and PhD student in social anthropology at the same faculty, will be the speakers of the meeting "Afro-diasporas in Dialogue in the Plastic Arts," on October 5, at 10:00 am, at the IEA. They will discuss the work they have developed with three other curators in the preparation of the exhibition "Afro-Atlantic Stories", which runs until October 21 at MASP and the Tomie Ohtake Institute, in São Paulo. The event will be broadcast live over the internet.
