Implementation of 5G in Brazil motivates the creation of a think tank at USP
The debate "5G in Brazil: Why and What for?," to be held on September 3, at 9:00 am, will start the first phase of the think tank "5G Implementation in Brazil," a forum on new technology of mobile telephony, its implantation in the country, and its repercussions in the social, political, economic and international relations areas. The initiative is a partnership of the IEA with USP's Polytechnic School (EP) and the Institute of International Relations.

IEA's Board approves the creation of two new study groups
The Ci.CRESS Study Group, based at the IEA headquarters in São Paulo, intends to stimulate an epistemological, methodological, and interdisciplinary debate to assess the impact of different belief systems on the meaning given to life and health. At the Institute's Ribeirão Preto Center, the Law and Technology Study Group (TechLaw) has been created to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue between the two areas.

COURSE
Online course will address conceptions of family in 20th century Brazilian literature
The registration period to participate in the online cultural diffusion course "Family in Brazilian Literature of the 20th Century" will take place from August 24 to September 8. The course will be taught by Professor Belinda Mandelbaum, from USP's Institute of Psychology. Based on family studies of the humanities, it aims to organize dialogues with texts from Brazilian literature of the last century.

The role of religions
On August 21, from 2:00 pm, the Seminar "Periphery, Religion, Secular State" will discuss the role played by religions in Brazil in recent years. The activity has been organized by IEA's research group "nPeriferias."
Lamarckism
A specialist in history and theory of biology, Professor Lilian Al-Chueyr Pereira Martins will give the conference "Lamarck and his Time: What He Really Thought about Evolution" on August 21, at 11:00 am.
Jesuit preaching
"The Rhetoric of the Passions: Orality and Culture Written in the Missionary Preaching of the Jesuits in the Reductions in Guarani Territories" will be the theme of a presentation by Professor Luiz Fernando Medeiros Rodrigues (UNISINOS) on August 24, at 2:30 pm.
Inclusive fashion
Professors Francisca Dantas Mendes and Luiza Tamashiro will propose a debate with market and consumer representatives at the seminar "Plural Fashion and Beauty Aesthetics in the Plurality of Bodies," on August 26, from 10:30 am.
Engineering courses
A seminar with professors Roberto Lobo, Marcello Nitz, Simon Schwartzman, and José Roberto Cardoso will discuss the central issues of the crisis in engineering courses on August 27, at 3:00 pm.

The French Institutes For Advanced Study Fellowship Program offers about 30 grants at the institutes for advanced study in Paris, Lyon, Montpellier, and Marseille. The scholarships are intended for researchers in the humanities and social sciences. Deadline: September 15.
