OECD inaugurates partnership with USP in an event attended by the organization's secretary-general

The webinar "OECD and USP: Reconfiguring the World from Knowledge," on May 6, marked the beginning of cooperation between the partners. The speaker was the secretary-general Angel Gurría, who addressed the world during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. For him, Brazil takes advantage in the dispute with other countries to become a member of the OECD because "they are already in the family and, instead of waiting to be accepted, have already started to work with the organization."

COLLECTION

Highlights of IEA's 35-year history

Raymundo Faoro, first lecturer and first visiting professor

On August 25, 1986, two months before USP's president José Goldemberg issued the resolution that officially created the IEA, jurist, historian, and sociologist Raymundo Faoro (1925-2003) was the protagonist of the Institute's inaugural activity, the conference “Is there a Brazilian Political Thought?" Later, as the first visiting professor at the IEA, he transformed the content of the conference into a comprehensive study of the same name, published in the first issue of the Institute's journal "Estudos Avançados," launched in late 1987. According to Faoro's analysis, if liberalism had “authentically” developed in 19th-century Brazil, it could have broadened the democratic field and “the State would be another, not the patrimonial-stratified-authoritarian monster that is alive in the Brazilian reality.”
