Book analyzes the trajectory of decision-making processes in the creation of the Maria da Penha Law

The role of the Brazilian Judiciary in the fight against Domestic and Family Violence against Women (VDFM) is the subject of the book "Journeys of the Judiciary in the implementation of the Maria da Penha Law," by Fabiana Severi. Edited by the IEA, the work has been published on USP's portal holding an open library (Portuguese only). The book analyzes the role played by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) in creating and coordinating judicial policies at the national level aimed at the implementation of the law, considered one of the best in the world on domestic violence, in the last 15 years. According to Severi, approving a law like this is "a major institutional innovation in human rights" in a country where, historically, "sexism and colonialism have produced and reinforced a punitive judicial culture and places of subordination for women and girls."
