USP Global Cities Program opens a call for the selection of postdoctoral researchers and collaborators

Interested parties have until December 19, at 10:00 am, to apply for one of the 12 vacancies for postdoctoral researchers and collaborators at the USP Cities Global Synthesis Center. When applying, it is necessary to submit a project on one of the 18 proposed themes, each one related to a supervisor. The research areas are linked to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

EVENTS

Chair launches books on beach management and ocean governance

On November 16, at 10:00 am, the UNESCO Chair for Ocean Sustainability will launch two books published by the IEA: "Gestão de praias: do condeito à prática" (or "Beach Management: from Concept to Practice") and "Challenges in Ocean Governance in the Views of Early Career Scientists." The first brings together information, concepts, perspectives, and practices on beach governance in Brazil, while the second presents essays produced by participants in the São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Ocean Interdisciplinary Research and Governance (SPSAS Ocean), held in 2018, regarding the transformation of sociological systems and the relationship between ocean and society. On the same day, at 1:00 pm, the Chair will promote the delivery of the Marta Vannucci Award for Women in Ocean Science. Both events will be held face-to-face and will be broadcast live on the web. Prior registration is required for thos e willing to participate.

Drawing workshop and meetings with artists and researchers mark the end of exhibition

To mark the closing of the exhibition "Grace at the boundary of knowledge," which is on view until November 20, the IEA and the MariAntonia University Center will promote two conversations and a practical drawing workshop with artist Sandra Boeschenstein. On November 16 and 17, the meetings will debate the convergences between art and science, as well as the statutes, traditions, experiments, and transcendences of drawing in contemporary times, an element with a central role in the exhibition. Artist Rosana Paulino, philosopher Renato Janine, and bioscientist Regina Pekelmann Markus will be some of the debaters. The workshop "Poetics of drawing: from drawing a space to drawing in space," with Sandra Boeschenstein, is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students in arts, architecture, and design. There are 15 vacancies and prior registration is required.

COURSE

IEA promotes free course on chipped-stone technology

From November 14 to 30, registration will be open for the course "The Evolution of the Chipped-Stone Technology," to be taught by archaeologist Fabio Parenti, one of the greatest specialists on the subject. There will be five 2-hour-long face-to-face meetings from December 12 to 16 at the IEA-USP headquarters in São Paulo. To apply for one of the 40 vacancies, interested parties must access the Apolo system.

Brazilian elections and forest governance are themes of "Estudos Advançados" #106

The new issue of the journal "Estudos Avançados," inspired by the election year in Brazil, addresses topics such as electoral polls, candidate programs, and the ideological foundations of Bolsonarism. The articles, already available on the SciELO platform (Portuguese only), are based on investigations in the field of political science to address the Brazilian electoral history and assess polarization, electoral reforms, and perceptions of political parties, among other issues. In the dossier "Forest Governance," the texts reflect on the advances in this area in Brazil and the global perspectives for environmental and climate governance.

November 17, at 7:00 pm - Priorities for the Reconstruction of National Human Rights Policies in Brazil

Journalists and deputies elected in 2022 have been invited to this event to discuss the interruption of the dismantling of human rights policies in Brazil and the priorities for their reconstruction. A face-to-face event at the Nicolau Sevcenko Auditorium (Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences - FFLCH/USP).

November 18, at 3:00 pm - USP Thematic Axes Program - Energy: What is the Future of Mobility?

The transport sector, as the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, will be the subject of this meeting, which aims to discuss the need for decarbonization and perspectives for low-carbon mobility in Brazil, considering options such as electric and hybrid vehicles, biofuel vehicles, and hydrogen, among others. November 22, at 10:00 am - Lecture Cycle “Forjando Palmares”

To reinforce and reflect on black consciousness, this event will seek to discuss the Brazilian black subject in its social and political dimensions, as well as to debate racial relations in Brazil. Watch live.

November 22, at 11:00 am - Technological Biases in John VI of Portugal's Steel Project

Fernando Landgraf, a professor at USP's Polytechnic School, will address the steel initiatives established in Portugal and Brazil, as well as foundries to meet the demands of mining, agriculture, the sugar industry, and arsenals between 1800 and 1822. Online and in-person event.
