Regina Pekelmann MarkusRegina Pekelmann Markus is General Secretary of the Brazilian Association for Progress of Science and Vice-President of the Brazilian Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and till recently was the National Secretary for Politics and Research and Development Programs at the Ministry of Science and Technology. Dr. Markus received her BS (1970) and Ph.D. (1974) from the former Escola Paulista de Medicina - Federal University of São Paulo, and worked at the Department of Pharmacology at University of West Virginia (1979) and Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (1988). Her research interests are Autonomic Pharmacology, Neuroendocrinoinflammatory cellular signaling and Chronobiology, and was Instructor (1975 - 1978) and Assistant Professor (1978 - 1987) at Escola Paulista de Medicina. In 1987 went to the University of São Paulo, first as Assistant Professor, and than as Associate (1990 - 1997) and Full Professor (1997 - ). As member of the SBPC board has been responsible for the Scientific Program of the Annual Meeting and was responsible for the number of the Journal "Ciência e Cultura" that discussed the Brazilian Biodiversity.
