Roger Martin Buergel
Roger M. Buergel was appointed Artistic Director of Documenta 12 in December, 2003. This major event of contemporary world art, based in the German city of Kassel, took place between June 16 and September 23, 2007. In the 1980s, Buergel studied culture, philosophy and economics in Vienna. He began his career as a university professor in 1990, being the tutor of Cinema Theory at the History Department of the University of Vienna. He develops research and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in modern and contemporary art. He was a visiting researcher at the MIT and at the University of California between 1997 and 1999. Since 2013 he is the director of the Johann Jacobs Museum in Zurich.
