Tomos Proffitt
Proffitt conducted his PhD analysing the Oldowan and Developed Oldowan assemblages from Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, and working on the ERC funded Origins of the Acheulean at Olduvai Gorge Project at University College London. Following the completion of his PhD, Proffitt moved to the University of Oxford as member of the ERC funded Primate Archaeology Group, to conduct lithic analyses on non-human tool using primate lithic assemblages (chimpanzee, capuchin and macaque), to better understand inter-species tool use and production variability, as well as developing insights into the emergence of hominin lithic technology. Currently, Proffitt is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London working on capuchin stone tool use at Serra da Capivara as well as undertaking research into chimpanzee, macaque and hominin stone tool use. In addition to this, Proffitt is also involved in experimental approaches to understanding hominin raw material selection, stone tool use and stone tool learning mechanisms. |
