O projeto Rainforest Business School foi idealizado para preencher essa lacuna. A iniciativa foi lançada em 21 de fevereiro, no IEA, quando Maritta Koch-Weser liderou uma ampla discussão sobre a proposta com cerca de trinta especialistas, entre os quais pesquisadores brasileiros e representantes governamentais e de instituições internacionais.
A ideia é oferecer treinamento especializado para o desenvolvimento de negócios científicos em florestas tropicais de forma competitiva, ambientalmente e socialmente sustentável, de forma que uma nova geração de profissionais desenvolva o potencial econômico da floresta em pé.
