New meeting of researchers addresses the effects of the street protests in Brazil

'What's Next?', the second event in the series UTI Brasil of the Contemporary Societies Laboratory, will be held on July 3, at 11 am, in IEA's Event Room.

Manifestantes na cobertura do Congresso Nacional - 4Do the measures and decisions adopted and proposed by Brazilian governors and legislature respond to the aspirations of the popular demonstrations in recent weeks? Is a political, economic and social pact viable? Is a significant policy reform in order to reduce the deficit of representativeness, magnify the mechanisms of participatory democracy and bring greater transparency to the political-electoral system possible?

These questions constitute the main theme of the meeting  'What's Next?', the second in the series UTI Brasil (Brazil ICU in English) of the Contemporary Societies Laboratory, on July 3, at 11 am, in IEA's Event Room.

fter the preliminary diagnosis of the situation provided by 14 exhibitors at the meeting 'What's Happening?', held on June 21, this time four respondents will be asked about the reactions that the protests have caused in the government, legislature, political parties, trade unions, student organizations and other social organizations.

Respondents will be André Singer, Maria Lucia Montes, Eugenio Bucci and a representative of the ‘Passe Livre’ Movement (MPL). Already confirmed are the participations of the following interviewers: José Álvaro Moisés, Sergio Adorno, Bernardo Sorj, Eda Tassara, Pedro Jacobi, Lúcia Maciel Barbosa de Oliveira, Arlene Clemesha and Renato Baena.

Each respondent will answer three questions and each interviewer will formulate only one question. The final part of the meeting will be a 30-minute discussion among all the participants. Mediation will be in charge Martin Grossmann, director of the IEA.
