OPPORTUNITY

Registrations for the selection of postdoctoral fellows at "INCT Combate à Fome" are welcome until September 18

The IEA receives applications from researchers interested in competing for six post-doctoral scholarships linked to the National Institute of Science and Technology Combating Hunger ("INCT Combate à Fome") until 12:00 pm on September 18. With a monthly value of R$8,479.20 and a duration of 12 months, each scholarship will be linked to one of the following thematic axes: Transdisciplinary Approach to Food Systems; Health and Nutrition; Public policy; Value Chains; Communication and Diffusion; and Artificial Intelligence.

Bernard Wood gives lectures on human origin and evolution in October

Renowned British paleoanthropologist Bernard Wood will give two conferences in São Paulo in October. On the 9th, at 4:00 pm, the addressed theme will be "Origin of the Genus Homo." The following day, at 10:00 am, he will speak about "Human Evolution: Achievements and Challenges." Both events are public and free. The latter will offer simultaneous translation and requires prior registration. Wood has dedicated himself for more than 50 years to studies on the origin of the genus Homo, and to the advances and difficulties in research on the evolution of the human lineage.

2nd French Scientific Cooperation Week at USP will have seminars, an exhibition, and a course

The 2nd French Scientific Cooperation Week will take place at USP from September 18 to 22. It will be an opportunity to present research outcomes, inform society about the importance of international scientific cooperation, and enable the creation of new French-Brazilian projects. The Week is organized by the IEA, USP's Agency for National and International Academic Cooperation (AUCANI), and the Consulate General of France in São Paulo, with support from the Brasiliana Guita and José Mindlin Library (BBM), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and Institut des Amériques (IdA).

IEA opens the Ombudsman's Office for comments on its activities

Sworn in last August, geologist Adriana Alves, from USP's Institute of Geosciences (IGc), is IEA's first ombudsman. The Ombudsman's Office is a specific, independent, and autonomous body designed to analyze reports and complaints related to the activities carried out by and at the IEA. Based on a careful analysis of the manifestations presented and the observance of due anonymity, the Ombudsman must propose procedures to solve the problems and adopt practices appropriate to the public interest.

REPORT

Director of ANPD discusses international data flow and the Agency's role in regulating AI

The international flow of data raises complex questions about legal jurisdiction and sovereignty. Furthermore, "national legal systems compete with each other, which creates difficulties for businesses and individuals, and even for academic research," according to the director of the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), Miriam Wimmer. In August she was a presenter at two events, discussing the topic "International Data Flow: Regulatory Aspects" during the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Scientific Diplomacy and Innovation (InnScid SP) and taking part in the seminar "AI Regulation: What Should Be the Role of ANPD?"

This meeting will address the need for reflection on the role of technology and innovation in the current debate on the development of Brazilian industry given the sector's dependence on specialized human resources to improve itself. Public and free event. Watch live.

September 22, at 10:00 am - AI in the Public Sector: How to Use Technology to Improve Public Policies?

A seminar that is part of the cycle "AI Challenges and Opportunities" – Sectoral Perspectives. The presenters will be Fernando Filgueiras (Federal University of Goiás) and Diogo Brunacci (Oracle, to be confirmed). The debater will be Manuela Ribeiro (Cetic.br and NIC.br). Watch live.

September 27, at 2:00 pm - Reconstruction of the Memory and History of Psychology from Institutional Archives

A meeting on the possibility of teaching, research, and university extension activities on the memory and history of psychology based on institutional archives, featuring presentations by Bruna Tchaleckian (USP's Institute of Psychology) and Cristina Lhullier (University of Caxias do Sul). From September 28 to December 7 (six meetings), at 3:00 pm - Series on Complexity

Conversations with researchers from the areas of physics, biology, philosophy of science, semiotics, biology, and logic will evaluate advances in research and debates on the complexity and validity of Stephen Hawking's prophecy, for whom the 21st century would be "the century of complexity."
