Shankar Aswani Canela
Shankar Aswani Canela is an anthropologist who holds a bachelor's degree in Marine Affairs / Anthropology from the University of Miami (1988), and a master's degree (1992) and a PhD (1997) in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii. He is currently a professor at the Rhodes University's Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science in South Africa. He has been conducting research on a wide variety of topics involving common property resources, indigenous environmental knowledge, cultural and human ecology of fisheries, economic anthropology, political ecology, and marine conservation in the Solomon Islands and in Africa since 1992. Recently, Canela has been studying changes in coastal communities caused by global climate change. |
