Roseli de Deus Lopes and Marcos Buckeridge are elected directors of the IEA

On March 19, professors Roseli de Deus Lopes, from USP's Polytechnic School (Poli), and Marcos Buckeridge, from the Institute of Biosciences (IB), were elected to lead the IEA for four years starting this month. A full professor of electrical engineering at Poli, Lopes is the first woman to hold the position of director. Since April 2020, she has been deputy director of the Institute. Buckeridge, appointed the next deputy director, is a full professor of botanical biochemistry at the IB, as well as the creator of the USP Global Cities Synthesis Center.

Exhibition celebrates the work and life of Alfredo Bosi

The exhibition Alfredo Bosi: Between Criticism and Utopia is open until May 26 at USP's MariAntonia Center. The public will be able to learn more about the academic trajectory and social activism of the professor, historian, and literary critic. Starting with Bosi's childhood and youth, the exhibition addresses his training and work as a teacher in high school and a professor at USP, in addition to his engagement with entities such as the São Paulo Justice and Peace Commission, and the D. Paulo Evaristo Center for the Defense of Human Rights, in the 1970s.

RESEARCH

New study group addresses the impact of changes in work on health

IEA's Board approved the creation of the Study Group on the Impacts of New Morphologies of Work on the Life and Health of the Working Class on March 20. According to its proponent, public health scientist René Mendes, a collaborating researcher at the Institute, the new group aims to expand and enhance the observatory on the same topic that he already coordinates. The mission is to contribute to the vigilant and prospective monitoring of the work environment in all its dimensions and diversity.

CAENI opens selection for doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships in scientific diplomacy

The Center for International Negotiations Studies (CAENI) is welcoming applications for the selection of a doctoral fellow and a post-doctoral fellow until April 4. The objective of the research support center based at the IEA is to develop activities in the international project Neworld@a (Negotiating World Research Data – A Science Diplomacy Study). The scholarships (R$ 4,572.90 and R$ 9,047.40) will be granted for 12 months from April 15. The respective workloads will be 30 and 40 hours per week.

Walter Neves will teach a course on human evolution

The third edition of the scientific dissemination course Contemporary Debates in Paleoanthropology will begin on May 17. There will be 11 classes taught by paleoanthropologist Walter Neves, a senior professor at the IEA. Those interested in participating must register by April 19 in the USP Apolo System. The course will take place on Fridays, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, totaling 27 and a half hours. The students must be fluent in reading English.
